YOSC members Philip David and Caroline Clarke launched their 2016 campaign for the
annual “Old Spice Trophy”, the Northern National 12 Class series with a clear win at the
2016 Blaydon Race, sailed on the River Tyne from Newburn, upstream from Newcastle. This
is the traditional series opener and is one single long race, often held in wintry conditions but
this year in fine April sunshine, dry and almost warm weather.
They led from almost the start with another Yorkshire crew from Yeadon Sailing Club,
Howard Chadwick and Helen Nicholson coming home second.
Organised by Tynemouth Sailing Club, and after an open air prize-giving, many of the crews
joined a pleasant season opening social at “The Keelman” riverside pub for a well deserved
warming meal.
