Learn to sail at an RYA accredited club...

Yorkshire Ouse Sailing Club are a recognised and accredited RYA training centre. We provide training on a voluntary basis to new and existing members. This allows the training to take place within a small friendly group and a pleasant atmosphere.

We will create a safe training environment for adults and children to learn to handle boats and sailing techniques. As we are based on the river Ouse at Naburn, you will also get used to other river traffic, river current and the interesting effect that a river environment has on the wind.

We recommend that everyone starts with RYA Dinghy Sailing Level 1 which usually takes two days to complete. Level 1 will introduce you to the basics of sailing a dinghy, including rigging, launching and basic handlingtechniques.  You will learn a lot whilst having fun!

The RYA Dinghy Sailing Level 2 follows on from Level 1 and will introduce you to sailing efficiently, recovering from a capsize and rescuing a man overboard. Taking around four days, level 2 will also include more theory, including interacting with other boats. On completion of the course, the successful sailor will be safety conscious and capable of sailing in light to moderate winds without an instructor present.

For young sailors of nine or older, the club also offers training on the Youth Sailing Scheme at Stages 1 to 4.

Powerboat Training at YOSC...

We provide powerboat courses for members who wish to carry out safety boat or officer or the day duties and participate more in the dinghy sailing club. We will teach you to be competent with a small powered craft in the RYA Powerboat Level 2 course or more detailed safety and rescue techniques on the RYA Safety Boat course . Again both of these courses will teach you a lot and are tremendous fun. The Powerboat and Safety Boat courses are normally only available to existing club members.

Anyone is welcome, providing you meet the minimum age requirements. We often have individuals, children, parent and child or full families. Please contact us for more information and to discuss your requirements.
